The Limassol Folklore Research Group was founded in Limassol in 1987, by a group of people who were involved in the tradition and folklore of our place.
The inspirer of the whole effort was Kyriakos Zittis, a well-known dance teacher and lover of the cultural events of our place.
The goals of the Group include the preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage and the creation of archives to record all issues related to our culture, manners and customs.
The main activity of the Group is the maintenance of a dance group that researches and presents the traditional dances of Cyprus, as well as dances from various regions of the wider Greek area.
In a short time he has created a remarkable dance group, with a rich cloakroom of traditional authentic costumes, which has appeared successfully in many performances.
The dance group of the Group has been repeatedly selected by the Cyprus Tourism Organization for presentations at international exhibitions and seminars aimed at promoting Cyprus abroad.
Kyriakos Zittis, the Group’s Dance Teacher, was born in Limassol and has been involved in traditional dances and our traditional song since he was a child. He plays the lute and sings.
He has taken part in traditional dance seminars in Cyprus and abroad and has been honored with the medal of the city of ENGIEN in Paris in an event for the promotion of Cyprus organized by this city with the K.O.T.
