Profile
Tonia Theodorou was born in Limassol. She studied Jewelry Design at the Porta Romana State Institute in Florence, from where she graduated in 1987. She then worked in jewelry workshops in Florence. Her creations are based on two elements: movement and transformation. Through the use of these two elements, she aims to offer her customers alternative and interesting solutions, so that they can modify and transform the shape of their jewelry according to their preferences. The originality of Tonia’s work lies in the fact that each design tells its own story, that is, she creates “talking” jewelry.
In July 2002 and 2004, Tonia participated in a jewelry exhibition at the Jacobs Javit Center in New York. In the same year, she also presented her work at The House of Cyprus in New York and her work was covered by the Greek channel Actina TV. An art critic expressed his favorable opinion of the originality of her work and advised her to present her jewelry among works of art. On March 9, 2007, the President of the Cyprus Federation of Businesswomen and Professionals (BPW Cyprus) awarded her the Professional of the Year Certificate. The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Minister of Defense and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tonia Theodorou was nominated as one of the top five designers for the year 2011 for the Madame Figaro Awards. Since 1992, she has maintained her own store in Limassol. In 2010, as a result of her deep love for art and her personal talent in painting, she expanded the first floor of her store into an Art Gallery under the name TONIA jewel & art gallery, where she hosts exhibitions of Cypriot and international artists.
Her first solo exhibition was held at the same venue on 8 March 2015, inaugurated by the First Lady of Cyprus, Mrs. Andri Anastasiades, and inaugurated by the former President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Daphne Trimikliniotis. On 12 December 2015, she held her second solo art exhibition and in December 2016 her third. In December 2017, she held her fourth solo exhibition, simultaneously presenting her paintings and her new and original works in jewelry. Part of the proceeds from all her exhibitions were donated to charitable causes.
In September 2017, the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC) named Tonia Theodorou as its Ambassador. The fact that she had great teachers in painting, such as George Erotokritos for three years (2009-2012), Moraitis and Vagiannis for the years 2012 and 2013 and, finally, Petros Ptochopoulos, is considered very important by her.
Her works are exhibited at the Limassol Municipal Gallery, the Presidential Palace of Cyprus and various art collections in Cyprus, as well as in other European countries, such as the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Russia and the United States of America.
